This October we have visited this village after gathering some knowledge from internet. It is near about 18 km from Puri. One can easily hire auto to visit this village. A small village welcomes with the Hoarding "Raghurajpur". You can find paintings and other crafts from the very beginning house of the village and it moves on and on. A local artist spontaneously came to us to guide our village tour. Under his guidance we visited three families where we surprised to find that all the family members were artists.
The villagers were very welcoming. All the families living in this village are artists carrying this ancestral art in their blood. This art is known as PATACHITRA, crafted on TAL PATTA (Palm Leaves), soft board made of cotton sarees & silk, hard shell of coconut, natural glue and natural vegetable colours. The prices of the wall mattress are bit high (depends on art pieces) but when you see the labour behind the canvas you can easily justify the value. You can easily collect a souvenir from this village to encourage those artists & to have a delightful memory of this heritage village tour.
